Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) was recognized in the presentation of the U.S. Navy’s 2008 Team Submarine Excellence Award to the Navy’s Submarine Acoustic Systems Program Office (PMS 401) and Submarine Combat System Program Office (PMS 425). As a member of the team, Raytheon was cited for the development and successful delivery of the ARCI and AN/BYG-1 TI-06 submarine sonar and combat control systems.
The award, which is presented by the Navy’s Program Executive Office for
Submarines (PEO SUB) each year, recognizes teams for outstanding technical
knowledge, hard work, and exceptional commitment to excellence for a
submarine-related program.
At a ceremony held at Raytheon’s Seapower Capability Center, U.S. Navy
Captain Brian Vance commended the Raytheon team for its contributions to the success of the BYG-1 program.
“Your ability to work efficiently and effectively as a team has been
exemplary,” said Capt. Brian Vance, program manager, submarine combat
systems, reading a formal citation from Rear Adm. William H. Hilarides. “Your unprecedented accomplishments allowed your team to demonstrate exceptional initiative, flexibility, and technical expertise to deliver a capable, stable and reliable product.”
AN/BYG-1 has been designated as the baseline combat system for the Navy’s submarine fleet. The system exploits the power of sonar, electronic support measures, radar, navigation, periscopes, communication, command and weapons to provide a fully integrated submarine combat system.
The system was designed using commercial off the shelf (COTS) equipment and open standards that provide interoperability, portability, scalability and
supplier independence for all hardware and software components. In addition, the AN/BYG-1 system allows for rapid COTS insertion to accommodate and integrate additional functionality, sensors and-or weapons.
The award also recognized General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems, Lockheed Martin Undersea Systems, and the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport.
Raytheon IDS is the AN/BYG-1 systems integrator for the combat control suites aboard Virginia-, Los Angeles-, Seawolf-, Ohio- (SSGN) and Australia’s Collins-class submarines. In addition to the weapons control subsystem, the company provides integration for the tactical control system, weapons control, and tactical network subsystems, ensuring complete end-to-end functionality.
Integrated Defense Systems is Raytheon’s leader in Global Capabilities
Integration, providing affordable, integrated solutions to a broad
international and domestic customer base, including the U.S. Missile Defense Agency, the U.S. Armed Forces and the Department of Homeland Security.
