U.S. Air Force/Lockheed Martin team achieves major operational milestone on first SBIRS HEO system

Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] announced today that the U.S. Air Force has certified readiness for dedicated operational utility evaluation and trial period operations of the first Space Based Infrared System (SBIRS) Highly Elliptical Orbit (HEO-1) payload and associated ground system in preparation for use by the warfighter.

Space Tracking and Surveillance System’s demonstration satellites complete acoustic testing

SELEX Communications military WiMAX Tactical Radios were successfully tested last July by the Joint Forces Support Group (JSFG) in Rheinbach, Germany.Germany’s Armed Forces are currently looking at wireless broadband solutions to connect and distribute information from multiple sources in the field, to one central location and SELEX Communications’ WRS504-N WiMAX Tactical Radio successfully proved their broadband point-to-multipoint wireless transmission performance during a series of tests.

Lockheed Martin-built Trident II D5 missile achieves 124 successful test launches in a row

The U.S. Navy conducted a successful test launch yesterday of two Trident II D5 Fleet Ballistic Missiles (FBMs) built by Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT). The Navy launched the unarmed missiles from the submerged submarine USS Louisiana (SSBN 743) in thePacific Ocean.

The Trident II D5 missile now has achieved 124 consecutive successful test launches since 1989 - a record unmatched by any other large ballistic missile or space launch vehicle.

Boeing, US Navy offer Super Hornet for Denmark’s fighter competition

Boeing [NYSE: BA] and the U.S. Navy delivered a proposal Aug. 15 offering the advanced F/A-18E/F Super Hornet to the Royal Danish Air Force as part of Denmark’s New Combat Aircraft competition. Boeing received a Request for Information from Denmark in May. The stated initial requirement is for 48 aircraft.

Lockheed Martin receives $61 million contract for guided MLRS unitary rockets

Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] has received a $61 million follow-on contract for Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) Unitary rockets. To date, more than 850 GMLRS rockets have been fired in the Global War on Terror. Work on the contract will be performed at the company’s facilities inCamden, AR, and Dallas, TX. Deliveries will begin in May 2010 and conclude in July of that year.
