Lockheed Martin begins critical test phase for first advanced EHF military communications satellite

Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] announced today that the first Advanced Extremely High Frequency (AEHF) military communications satellite is now undergoing thermal vacuum testing at the company’s Sunnyvale, Calif. facilities.

The U.S. Air Force’s AEHF system will provide global, highly secure, protected, survivable communications for all warfighters serving under the U.S. Department of Defense.

Contract for upgrading of Norwegian mine counter measure vessels

Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace has signed two contracts with the Armed Forces’ Logistics Organisation for the delivery of a new Command & Control system, a new Dynamic Position system and an upgrading of a tactical simulator for Norway’s Mine Counter Measure Vessels. The two contracts have a total scope of approx. MNOK 150, and has a delivery scheduled for completion within approx. 4 years.

Raytheon achieves UK intelligence integration milestone during CWID 2008

Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) demonstrated the potential to employ a U.K. adaptation of the U.S.-deployed Distributed Common Ground System (DCGS) to provide a more accurate, timely understanding of an adversary and their actions.

Army to accelerate Future Combat Systems (FCS) deliveries to infantry brigade combat teams

The Army announced [on 26 June] that it is accelerating the delivery of key cutting-edge Future Combat Systems (FCS) capabilities to soldiers in the Army’s infantry brigade combat teams, known as IBCTs.

In the last five years of combat operations, IBCTs have been in the highest demand during combat operations. As a result of capability gaps found in the IBCTs, the Army is adjusting the FCS and complementary programs to provide necessary capabilities to infantry units first. These capabilities will increase effectiveness and survivability of IBCTs during offense, defense and stability operations.

Boeing Awarded B-52 Airborne Electronic Attack Technical Maturation Contract

The Boeing Company has been awarded a $14.9 million contract by the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory to develop and mature technologies required to enable airborne electronic attack from long distances, filling the stand-off electronic attack role. The contract includes systems engineering studies focusing on potential pod installation on the B-52H aircraft, as the designated demonstration airframe. This effort will advance the technology required for the planned Core Component Jammer (CCJ).

MH-60R helicopter periscope detection contract modified

Lockheed Martin Systems Integration - Owego, is being awarded a $144,041,340 modification to definitize a previously awarded cost-plus-fixed-fee contract (N00019-08-C-0005) to a cost-plus-incentive-fee contract. This modification provides for the system design and development of the MH-60R Advanced Radar Periscope Detection and Discrimination System, to include design, development, integration and test. Work will be performed in Owego, N.Y., (51 percent) and Farmingdale, N.Y., (49 percent), and is expected to be completed in Sept 2013. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. The Naval Air Systems Command, Patuxent River, Md., is the contracting activity.

Terminal High Altitude Area Defense radar successful in missile defense test

The Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) radar built by Raytheon Company performed successfully in the latest integrated flight test conducted by the Missile Defense Agency and THAAD prime contractor, Lockheed Martin, at the Pacific Missile Range Facility in Hawaii June 25. (more…)

The New Zealand Army took a big step towards becoming a network enabled force in the Waiouru training area last week.
