DRS Technologies Receives $51 Million in New Orders for Thermal Weapon Sights from US Army

Parsippany, N.J–DRS Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: DRS) announced today the receipt of new contract orders totaling over $51 million to produce Thermal Weapon Sights II (TWS II). The contracts were awarded by the U.S. Army’s Research, Development & Engineering Command’s (RDECOM) Acquisition Center at the U.S. Army Garrison Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland, acting on behalf of Program Executive Office Soldier at Fort Belvoir, Virginia.

Contract work will be performed by two of the DRS Sensors & Targeting Systems divisions - the Optronics Division in Palm Bay and Melbourne, Florida, and the Infrared Technologies Division in Dallas, Texas.
These new orders are part of a five-year, $2.3-billion Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (ID/IQ) TWS II Bridge contract awarded to DRS in 2007. Additional ID/IQ contracts are expected as funding is available enabling the Army to order up to 150,000 TWS II systems to support fielding needs.

Sagem Défense Sécurité records new order for SITEL information systems, to be deployed by the French army

Paris — French defense procurement agency DGA has officially placed an order with Sagem Défense Sécurité (SAFRAN Group) for an additional batch of 500 SITEL information systems, to be deployed by the French army.

Part of an overall program for the French army to deploy 4,500 systems, this latest batch brings the number of systems ordered to date to nearly 1,000.

The SITEL system, designed for several different vehicle types, comprises a terminal with a touch screen and digital map, and an interface for tactical radio and navigation systems.

SITEL provides connectivity between basic units and combat vehicles and is interoperable with the army’s other information systems, especially the one used in the FELIN* integrated equipment suite (soldier modernization program). It allows both combat and support units to stock and share information on tactical situations, along with mission planning and specific services for different weapon systems.

Northrop Grumman Offers DVD Training Packages for Electronic Navigation Systems

Charlottesville, VA — Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has launched a new eLearning initiative to support its Sperry Marine Voyage Management System (VMS) ship navigation software.

Sperry Marine, a business unit of Northrop Grumman, has produced a series of DVDs containing video training lessons covering various aspects of VMS operation and maintenance. The eLearning DVDs condense several days of normal classroom course material into a few hours of concentrated video instruction, which may be used for introductory or refresher training aboard ship.

“At Sperry Marine, we have been creating high-quality training DVDs for internal distribution to our worldwide field offices to ensure that our service personnel are kept current on new product installation and maintenance procedures,” said Michael Hughes, manager of product support and training for Sperry Marine.

“The internal success of these DVD-based training videos has led us to expand this eLearning initiative toward customer-focused training packages.”

Rockwell Collins completes delivery of head mounted displays for tank program

Cedar Rapids, IA — Rockwell Collins has completed delivery of the first 505 Head Mounted Displays (HMDs) for the Tank Urban Survivability Kit (TUSK) program. TUSK is part of an upgrade designed to provide the crews of the M1A1 and M1A2 Abrams tanks with enhanced survivability in urban environments.

As part of the TUSK upgrade program, Rockwell Collins is providing the HMD for the Loaders Thermal Weapon Sight (LTWS). The same proven HMD that was fielded for the Land Warrior (LW) and Mounted Warrior Soldier System (MWSS) program is being used as a remote viewer LTWS. This new capability allows the loader to identify and engage targets in day or night combat with the M240 machine gun from a position inside the tank and out of harm’s way.

Northrop Grumman to Provide New STARLite Radar for U.S. Army Unmanned Vehicle Application

Baltimore, MD — Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has been selected by the U.S. Army Communication-Electronics Life Cycle Management Command to produce the new multi-function radar for the Extended Range/Multi-Purpose Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Radar program.

Under the terms of the initial $42 million contract with the Command’s Robotics and Unmanned Systems Program Management Office, Northrop Grumman will deliver 10 STARLite(tm) Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR)/Ground Moving Target Indication radars to the Army.

“STARLite(tm) will provide precision ground maps and indications of moving targets vital to surveillance and protection of forces on the ground,” said Dave Shrum, vice president of Weapons and Sensors for Northrop Grumman’s Land Forces Division. “STARLite’s light weight will allow its installation on armed UAVs alongside optical sensors, giving our warfighters unprecedented situational awareness and target coordination to reduce the ‘kill chain’ on a wide variety of UAV and manned systems.”

DRS Technologies Receives $101 Million Five-Year Contract for Long Range Advanced Scout Surveillance System Subassemblies

Parsippany, N.J –DRS Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: DRS) announced today that it has received an initial order of $36.4 million on a five-year contract with a projected minimum value of approximately $101 million to produce critical subassemblies for the Long Range Advanced Scout Surveillance System (LRAS3) program. The contract was awarded to DRS by the Network Centric Systems business of the Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN), McKinney, Texas, the prime contractor and final integrator for the LRAS3 program.

The work will be performed by DRS’ Sensors & Targeting Systems unit - Optronics Division in Melbourne, Florida. Manufacturing is expected to begin immediately.

LRAS3 is a multi-sensor infrared system enabling real-time detection, recognition, identification and geo-location of distant targets. Army scouts on Stryker and HMMWV platforms use this technology to conduct 24-hour reconnaissance and surveillance, while remaining outside enemy acquisition and fire ranges - a vital improvement over previous generations of LRAS.

Under the contract, DRS will provide such key LRAS3 subassemblies as Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR) systems and Integrated Optical Benches (IOBs).

Lockheed Martin Joins Northrop Grumman Team Competing for GPS OCX Phase B Contract

Reston, VA — Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) announced today that Lockheed Martin has joined its team competing for the U.S. Air Force’s Global Positioning System (GPS) Next Generation Control Segment (OCX) Phase B contract.

The OCX modernization effort will provide mission enterprise control support for the nation’s existing GPS Block II and future Block III satellites. The current OCX contract for Phase A of the program is valued at $160 million and will provide the Air Force a flexible, scaleable, extensible and service-oriented re-architecture of the current GPS ground system. If selected for Phase B, Northrop Grumman’s Team OCX will deliver and sustain OCX via a block development approach.

“Lockheed Martin Information Systems and Global Services is a tremendous addition to Northrop Grumman’s experienced and proven team and will greatly enhance our ability to offer the customer an innovative and low-risk OCX solution that modernizes GPS command and control for effects-based operations,” said Steve Bergjans, GPS OCX vice president and program manager for Northrop Grumman.

Northrop Grumman Receives Contracts Totaling $252 Million for the F-22 Raptor Fighter Jet Program

San Diego, CA — Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has received multiple contracts totaling $252 million from Lockheed Martin since Jan. 1, 2008 for the communications, navigation and identification (CNI) subsystem of the U.S. Air Force’s F-22 Raptor fighter program. The awards include F-22 Production Lots 7, 8, 9 and spares, and modernization efforts for the CNI systems.

Northrop Grumman’s integrated CNI system provides 14 critical functions, including advanced multichannel/multiband voice and data links, flight navigation and friend-or-foe identification to F-22 pilots. By utilizing software-defined radios, Northrop Grumman’s revolutionary design enables simultaneous support of multiple capabilities for the advanced fighter while greatly reducing pilot workload and minimizing size, weight and power requirements for the CNI functions.

Northrop Grumman’s CNI system is supported by approximately 70 suppliers in 22 states. F-22 CNI production, integration and test and modernization activities take place at Northrop Grumman facilities in San Diego.

Northrop Grumman Demonstrates Mobile Broadband Wireless Capability in UK Public Safety Network Trial

London — Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has successfully completed a public safety network trial in the UK, aimed at demonstrating how mobile broadband wireless technology can help improve the responsiveness of the emergency services.

The trial, held in collaboration with NextWave Wireless and led by the National Policing Improvement Agency (NPIA), demonstrated how a mobile broadband network could increase security, help the police force respond faster to emergency services, and enable real-time transmission of time-sensitive crime scene forensics.

“This is a robust, secure, broadband mobile wireless communications solution that has the potential to significantly streamline and improve both emergency and normal daily public safety operations,” said Tom Afferton, director of wireless engineering for Northrop Grumman’s Information Technology sector. “The trial builds on our successful New York City wireless project and demonstrates the benefits of providing emergency services responders with real-time mobile access to critical information in the field.”

Rockwell Collins to provide optics assemblies for Northrop Grumman’s Large Aircraft Infrared Countermeasures system

Cedar Rapids, IA — Northrop Grumman has selected Rockwell Collins to provide the critical optical assemblies for the Miniature Pointer Tracker (MPT) used in its Large Aircraft Infrared Countermeasures (LAIRCM) system.

This MPT can defend a wide range of aircraft from an infrared missile attack by automatically detecting a missile launch, determining if it is a threat, and activating a high-intensity system of pulsed lasers to track and defeat the threat by confusing its guidance head.

“We are proud to have been selected for this program, which provides key capabilities that protect the warfighter against the growing threat of surface-to-air missiles,” said Bruce King, vice president and general manager of Surface Solutions for Rockwell Collins.

This Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract is valued at up to $66 million from 2008 through 2010.
