IMPACT wins US IED jammer contract

Ultra reveal new details on Global Observer JCTD

The US Air Force (USAF) is this month commencing flight testing of a prototype wideband communications suite planned to equip an Aerovironment Global Observer endurance UAV under an ongoing joint concept technology demonstration led by the US Special Operations Command.

The flight trials programme will use the USAF’s Boeing 707 Paul Revere airborne networking test bed as a UAV surrogate ahead of Global Observer availability.

The communications suite is intended to provide a complete ‘switchboard’ capability at altitude over battlefield areas. A laboratory version has already undergone extensive testing says Thomas Lee, from Ultra Electronics ATS advanced programming concepts group, which is developing the payload in conjunction with the USAF’s 653 Electronics Systems Wing at Hanscom Air Force Base and the Global Cyberspace Integration Center at Langley Air Force Base.

McAfee, the world’s largest dedicated security provider, recently announced the Security Content Automation Protocol (SCAP) validation of McAfee Policy Auditor 5.0.  Classified as a Federal Desktop Core Configuration (FDCC) Scanner and Authenticated Configuration Scanner, Policy Auditor 5.0 is the first enterprise-ready product to achieve this validation, enabling U.S. Federal agencies to comply with the FDCC baseline. BAE Systems receives U.S. Marine Corps order for 1,320 headborne energy analysis and diagnostic systems

PHOENIX, Arizona – BAE Systems has received an order from the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) for 1,320 Headborne Energy Analysis and Diagnostic Systems (HEADS), a sensor system placed inside helmets that will help scientists analyze and understand the forces that Marines sustain during impact and blast events that could lead to brain injury.

Saab reduces outlook for 2008

Different factors have had and continue to have an adverse impact on Saab, mainly through delays in order intake for major international projects and uncertainties in respect of Swedish defence material spending. Delays in ongoing major commercial aircraft projects have led to a revised, lower production plan in Saab’s aerostructures business. Also, market development for the technology business in South Africa is weaker than anticipated.

Tomahawks launched from Virginia subs

USS Virginia (SSN 774) conducted the strike portion of its class’ Operational Evaluation (OPEVAL) by launching three Tomahawk Cruise Missiles. Virginia fired two Block III Tomahawks – one from a vertical launch tube and another from a torpedo tube – and one Block IV Tomahawk from a vertical tube between August 28 and 29 in the Gulf of Mexico.

Even though Hurricane Gustav made landfall hundreds of miles away, Airmen from the 480th Intelligence Wing here [Langley Air Force Base, Virginia] are playing a critical support role.

The same intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance assets that are used to support contingency operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, also play a valuable role during natural disasters like Gustav.
